About BioBam
BioBam is a newly formed bioinformatics company that has emerged from an academic environment. Our funders have more than 10 years of experience in applied bioinformatics, have been involved in diverse bioinformatics projects such as Blast2GO, Babelomics, Gepas and Paintomics, and have contributed to Open Source Bioinformatics initiatives such as Bioconductor. We have been involved in dozens of applied genomics projects where we have worked together with experimentalists in the analysis and interpretation of high-throughput datasets. Based on this experience we identified an increasing need for software solutions designed specifically for the non-experienced scientific community. We are a highly motivated interdisciplinary team who strive to provide much needed user-friendly solutions.
Our goals
We aim to become an international point of reference in the development of bioinformatic software oriented towards molecular biology. By bringing together a balanced team of professionals with experience in both commercial software development and in cutting-edge research, we will be able to transfer scientific results and make them directly available to the scientific community. We maintain close contact with the Academy, which allows us to stay updated with the latest genomics developments and to transform this knowledge into well-designed software solutions.
Our Founders
Dr. Ana Conesa is the head of the Genomics of Gene Expression Group within the Bioinformatics and Genomics Department at the Prince Felipe Research Institute (CIPF), Valencia, Spain. She did her PhD in fungal genetics at the Dutch Institute for Applied Sciences (TNO), which she followed by leading a pioneering Bioinformatics project in the Toxicology Department in the same institute. She then moved to the Valencia Agricultural Research Institute to set-up a Bioinformatics service. In April 2007, she joined the CIPF where her research activity now focuses on Functional Genomics, in the development of bioinformatic methods for the functional annotation of non-model organisms, the statistical analysis of transcriptomics data and the integration of systems biology data, in particular, Blast2GO. She has published nearly 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles related to applied bioinformatics.
Dr. Stefan Götz is the co-founder and managing director of BioBam. After completing his Computer Science studies in Germany in 2004, he began his work in bioinformatics with the Biomedical Informatics group at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. There, he started to work in the area of Functional Annotation of novel sequence data. He then became the main developer of the Blast2GO project. In March 2007, he joined the Bioinformatics and Genomics Department of the Prince Felipe Research Centre (CIPF) where he concluded his PhD studies in 2010, and continued to work as a staff scientist until 2011. In recent years, he has been involved in various bioinformatics projects related to the analysis and visualization of genomics data, protein interaction networks, modelling of phenotype information and NGS data processing.
